<description>Topic: motor swap?

Message: just bebuild the one u have.&#160; it's not very hard to do and those things last forever.&#160; I rebuild the 250,000 mile engine out of my racecar and didn't even have to replace the piston rings, and yes the compression was low.&#160; when I opened her uo, I found that the rings were siezed to the pistons with carbon and the cyl walls didn't even have the cross-hatching worn off them.&#160; I cleaned everything up, and repositioned the rings, replaced the worn out timing chain and guides, cleaned and lapped the valves as well as grinding out the casting marks from inside the ports (don't widen them, you'll hit water jacket really easily) and slathered STP on all the bearings, which are still all original.&#160; I raced that engine all last year and won 21 races and a championship with it and it's still going strong.&#160; you don't need to invest a pile into it to get alot out of it.For the record my engine is a '92 twin cam and to my knowledge, the intakes are better on the earlier years because of the long runners as well as it came with stock headers.

<description>Topic: motor swap?

Message: New here with a few questions, I've got a 97 Saturn SC2 with 183k miles on it and tipically gets about 2k miles a month or more. Its a quick car but id like it to be quicker, at the same time I don't want to put money into a dying engine, I was told mu a mechanic its slowley dying. So I was looking at a motorswap and curious if anyone has done them and what they used or what motors are options, saturn motor or not. Thanks a lot.

<description>Topic: transmission

Message: can you hook a scan tool up to it and see if the speed sensor is actually being picked up by the pcm?&#160; it really sounds like that's what it is.&#160; how about taking the one out of the junk tranny.&#160; if the computer doesn't see a speed signal, it will cut the rev limiter in at a lower rpm than redline.&#160; a quick way to check is to floor it in park to see what it revs out to and do the same thing while driving, if it tops out at the same rpm then that's the problem.&#160; provided it is the rev limiter in the first place.

<description>Topic: What Kind of Car do You Drive Right Now?

Message: I drive a 1996 Saturn SL1. paid 2700 for it at a used car place. they got at auction.when i got it it only had a quart of oil in it. i put 3 more in it till i could get it to a shop to change it. put an aftermarket stereo in it, did some sanding and spray painting on trim pieces that had chopped and peeling paint. they look great and it changed the appearance of the vehicle. got some wheel covers at walmart to replace the faded and scratched up stock ones and painted the steel wheels black. the hubcaps are black too. it looks pretty sharp.installed some cheap($16) driving lights. they add a cool touch to the front of the car and really help with nighttime visibility. I live in a state that does not require a front license plate so I just mounted them in the holes intended for the front license plate bracket. Also, I encourage everyone to go to pull-a-part yards. I found a set of tires to fit my ride that were pretty much brand new(less than 10k miles on them) for $60. I installed them and it made a huge difference in driveability and the look of the car. the tires on it were 1 size taller than stock. they came in the car also my car came with a manual steering rack and the larger tires made it harder to turn at low speed such as turning at a stop or manuvering in a parking lot. I also installed a Cherry bomb Turbo glass pack muffler. changed the sound of the car to a tuner/import tone, but in a good way.
